We are pleased to name Morrell Group as our April Member of the month. I had the pleasure of meeting with Kevin Curtis and Jeannine Rinke to discuss Morrell Group's history and upcoming goals and projects.
For more than 40 years, Morrell Group has been a leading Engineering Partner, Systems Integrator, and Value-Added Distributor of advanced motion control solutions for industrial and mobile applications. Beginning as a distributor in 1979, Morrell Group has grown and expanded. In 1993, they opened in Canada and have continued to expand in the U.S. since then. Morrell Group is dedicated to pushing themselves to be on the cutting edge of advanced motion control solutions and believe that their clients need a partner, not just a distributor.
In April 2021, Morrell Group implemented their 'Motioneer' department. The team in this department focuses exclusively on conceptual engineering and are cross-trained in things like hydraulics, pneumatics and mechanical. They are experts in solving unique challenges and in solutions based engineering. You can read more about the Motioneer department HERE
While speaking with Kevin and Jeannine, they were especially proud of Morrell's EV battery testing capabilities. In 2021, Morrell showcased their Battery Cycling DC Testing Solution for electric vehicle battery manufacturing at The Battery Show in Novi, Michigan. You can read more about Morrell's battery testing and the 2021 Battery Show HERE. They were also very excited about the latest announcements for an EV battery plant coming to Windsor-Essex, Jeannine said "we are poised and ready to help new plants with solutions".
I was also able to ask Kevin and Jeannine a few questions.
1. What are your goals for 2022?
A - We are looking forward to being involved in the EV market.
2. What are you most proud of from 2021?
A - The Motioneer department and its development. Our ability to create customized solutions and grow our engineering department to what it is today.
3. What advice would you give someone new to your industry?
A - You need a team backing you as it is not a 'one man show'. There are so many aspects to what we do that you need to work together.
Thank you Kevin and Jeannine, and Morrell Group, for meeting with me. It was a great opportunity to learn and a pleasure to discuss their facility capabilities.

ADVANCE: WOMEN IN MANUFACTURING - AN ENGAGING DAY OF CRUCIAL CONVERSATIONS
In 2022 as geopolitical conflicts bring further disruption to already strained supply chains and different sectors try to push forward despite labour shortages, women of all cultural backgrounds continue to be underrepresented in one of Canada’s most critical sectors – manufacturing.
The shutdown of several workspaces, educational institutions and childcare facilities due to coronavirus heightened the visibility of gender inequalities as many women were left to take on the bulk of domestic duties while fulfilling the responsibilities of their professions.
To take a closer look at how these barriers have continued to present themselves in the lives of women and discuss viable solutions, nearly 300 people registered for Advance: Women in Manufacturing 2022 to hear from leaders in manufacturing about the actions stakeholders can take to create more diverse and inclusive workspaces at all levels.
Automate Canada and CAMM President, Jeanine Lassaline-Berglund, participated as a moderator for the "Making conscious the unconscious" discussion.

Until recently the apprenticeship programs across the country have not undergone any significant upgrades to the model they have followed for decades. For the most part, there has been some evolution in content as technology has changed and advanced, but not necessarily in structure.
For the last decade, the Atlantic provinces were all working with their own chosen set of curriculum guidelines and exams. For example, Prince Edward Island (PEI) had a longstanding agreement with Alberta to use its content, curriculum, and exams.

OSHAWA INVESTMENT SHOULD HAVE SPINOFF IMPACTS FOR WINDSOR-ESSEX
Windsor-Essex has long been known as the automotive hub for Canada, and experts believe there will be an impact from the Oshawa investment on Tool and Die makers here.
The Canadian Association of Moldmakers and Automate Canada President, Jeanine Lassaline-Berglund, says we haven’t seen this kind of investment in automotive vehicle manufacturing in the province in quite some time.
“So of course that’s going to have spinoff effects, it’s going to have spinoff effects for the entire supply chain,” she continued, “Including the members of both the Canadian Association of Moldmakers and Automate Canada.”
