I had the pleasure of meeting with Larry Koscielski, of Centerline, for the July Member Spotlight.
What are Centerline’s goals for 2022?
Centerline recently worked on their strategic plan which included developing new sales goals and launching new products. Centerline is currently on track to release 3-4 new products before the end of the year.
Are there any things from 2021 that you would consider achievements, or that your company is most proud of?
Centerline has been able to make it through the pandemic without many gaps, while advancing new products. They work on fastener welding, which with the move to EV’s will be a big thing, as battery trays use a lot of fasteners.
What are 3 things that you would tell someone just starting out in your industry?
- Work hard
- Rid self of any sense of entitlement
- Always have goals for what people say is impossible
Can you provide a brief history of Centerline?
Centerline is a family-owned company that just celebrated their 65th anniversary. They maintain strong values, focus on the community and growth of employees and training. Centerline is dedicated to the next generation of industry leaders through programs like OYAP, and work with school boards and post-secondary institutions. The relationship Centerline holds with FIRST Robotics also shows their devotion to improving the community as they move forward together.
In 1957, Centerline started with die repairs and the two owners were toolmakers who then moved on towards repairs and building dies, then to machine building. Centerline now has a large staff in Windsor, 4 locations and 5 business units with global affiliates in Mexico, Germany, US, Brazil, and Romania.
What is something about your industry that you think would surprise people?
The size and scope of what is done is always a surprise when people visit. Also, the depth of knowledge, and uncovering the nuances of problems is surprising. Centerline does their own design and firmware design in their products which is not something all companies do. There is a team dedicated to writing software and developing software solutions.
It was great to meet with Larry and get a chance to learn about Centerline and their operations. Larry is truly dedicated to his industry and helping the community grow. He is dedicated to his relationship with FIRST Robotics and his passion is visible when he discusses their efforts.

RBC Economists Say Canada is Headed Towards a Short Recession
RBC economists say soaring food and energy prices, rising interest rates and ongoing labour shortages will push the economy into a “moderate contraction” next year.
Canada is headed toward a recession in 2023, but it is likely to be short-lived and not as severe as prior downturns, according to a new report from RBC.
RBC economists say soaring food and energy prices, rising interest rates and ongoing labour shortages will push the economy into a “moderate contraction” next year.
RBC says it expects the unemployment rate to reach 6.6 per cent next year, but doesn’t think it will take long to reverse some of that weakness in 2024 and beyond.
