So, Are We Essential, Or Not?

We say yes.

Based on what we have been told, our interpretation is mold making and industrial automation industries and their supply chain partners are considered essential.  This is either due to the fact that the products and services we deliver are essential or because our businesses supply to other essential businesses.

In order to be certain, we reached out for a legal opinion which confirmed this appears to be the correct interpretation. However, we also know each business is different and each business must assess decisions based on their individual situation.

As of 9 a.m. today and based on information at hand, this is the position we are providing to you, our members.

During these unusual times, keep in mind things are happening quickly and we know grey areas exist, and further changes are inevitable perhaps on a daily basis.

The language related to manufacturing is:

Manufacturing and Production

19. Businesses that extract, manufacture, process and distribute goods, products, equipment and materials, including businesses that manufacture inputs to other manufacturers (e.g. primary metal/ steel, blow molding, component manufacturers, chemicals, etc. that feed the end-product manufacturer);

20. Businesses, facilities and services that support and facilitate the two- way movement of essential goods within integrated North American and Global supply chains.

Every individual company must also assess all factors involved in the decision to either temporarily close or remain open.  You should investigate all matters independently, before acting on the basis of material contained herein. As responsible business owners and managers, we need to take all criteria into account when making decisions of this magnitude. Although it is the position of CAMM that mold making and industrial automation are essential, for particular analysis of your situation, you should consult your legal advisers.

We are continuing to monitor and assess and will update you as new info becomes available.

Reach out to us if you have questions or concerns.  We’re here to help and to make our voice heard.
